OCTOBER IS ENERGY AWARENESS MONTH

Did you know?

Ohio's Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) is a federally funded low-income residential energy efficiency program. The program reduces low-income households' energy use, thus creating more affordable housing for those in most need. Services include attic, wall and basement insulation; blower-door-guided air leakage reduction; heating system repairs or replacements; and health and safety testing and inspections. All measures are provided based on an on-site energy audit and on cost-effective guidelines developed using the NEAT computerized energy audit. Individualized client education is an important component of the program.

Across the country, more than 500 Community Action Agencies operate a Weatherization Assistance Program – helping families save money on utilities by making homes more energy efficient.

Low-income families are more likely to live in housing with heating problems and inadequate insulation. Weatherization measures like furnace repair and wall and attic insulation help promote energy equity by lowering utility burden and making energy more affordable for families

Over 20 percent of households have reported reducing or forgoing necessities such as food and medicine to pay an energy bill. Weatherization programs can help! Weatherization services saves families $283 per year on average in energy costs. #EnergyAwarenessMonth

Community Action weatherization and energy services are valued at $123 million in anticipated utility savings. Learn more in our National Impact Report: bit.ly/CAPImpactReport. #WeatherizationWorks
